La voix nous vient d'Alexandrie: "J'appelle la France..." Après les écoles d'Alexandrie et d'Assouan, c'est le moment d'annoncer notre mesure : "20°40' pour une latitude de 44°08'" L'observation de référence a eu lieu encore plus loin vers le sud: 72 km au sud d'Assouan, sur le tropique du cancer,(2296 km au sud de Lafrançaise). Cette observation marque le solstice d'été. Au moment du midi solaire,les rayons de soleil tombent à la verticale. A cet endroit, à cet instant, il n'y a pas d'ombre. calcul de la circonférence de la Terre: 360 x 2296 / (20+40/60) = 39 994 km
